Hi, welcome to our blog. We are the Young people’s Development Group (YPDG). We are young people who have come together to help create Horizon Youth Zone in Grimsby. This blog is to keep a log of our progress and achievements as we continue to work towards the opening of Horizon Youth Zone and the many opportunities that it will bring.
Welcome back! September was a fun-filled month for the YPDG, and we hope you enjoy reading about it.
For our first meeting of the month, we discussed the upcoming board presentation and went through the PowerPoint for it. In the next meeting we met Melanie Onn who is Deputy Chief Executive for Renewable UK and previous MP for Grimsby. We spoke to her about the Youth Zone but the main reason she came to talk to us was because two members of the group were attending the Global Offshore Wind Conference in London at the end of the month. With Melanie being a huge part of Renewable UK, she helped to organise fun events for us at the conference and to meet lots of different people. It was interesting for us to meet Melanie and to hear about her inspiring career journey.
As a group, our chairperson Jason Stockwood had got us some tickets to the Grimsby Town vs Wrexham match on the Tuesday night, so we travelled to the match after our meeting. It was very fun and some of the group even got a photo with the Mighty Mariner! Town won the match 3-1 which just made the evening that much better.
At our next meeting, we thought up some questions that we wanted to ask Duncan Clark (Head of UK Operations, Ørsted) when myself and Harriet were interviewing him at the conference. Once we’d thought of some questions, we started planning our Christmas party and deciding what we wanted to do. Another topic on the agenda was trying to get more young people involved in the group so we were trying to think of ways to do this.
At the end of September, Harriet and I attended the Global Offshore Wind Conference at the Excel centre in London alongside Ørsted who kindly invited us. In the photo above you will see myself and Harriet with Duncan Clark, Head of UK Operations at Ørsted and Melanie Onn, Deputy Chief Executive at Renewables UK.
