Welcome back to the Young People’s Development Group blog and we hope you have a fun read. Today’s writer is Alexis and I’m going to take you on the journey we have been on this May.
Throughout the month, the YPDG have done a variety things including more interviews for the Youth Zone, time capsule and interior design planning and signing up for a 10K. Our YPDG member Jake, has also done some work with the Big Issue.
This month, we had the opportunity to interview potential Business Support Officers for Horizon. Even though their role is mainly away from young people and in the office, we still value our opinion as young people. With questions about young people, business, experience and more personal ones about superheroes and decorating blank rooms we were sufficiently prepared for the interviews.
Additionally, this month we got to choose colours and designs for rooms in the Youth Zone. From colours of furniture to quotes on walls, we’ve managed to have our say in it all. We used colours from our logo and branding, as well as taglines that have been thought of before. Horizon will be the best-looking Youth Zone yet!
A central project of this month has been the planning of the time capsule. Haley, our Arts and Heritage Coordinator, has supported us throughout the planning of it. The time capsule will be installed and locked in the Youth Zone. Some ideas have been photobooks, special t-shirts, journals and wall art. Eventually, we hope to open the time capsule with a look back on the many years many young people and staff have worked hard but also had fun to build Horizon up from the ground.
Finally, as well as this, a couple of us have signed up for the Orsted 10K and are looking forward to completing it. Whilst currently at the Haven Building, we’ve made use of their facilities playing games and having fun – whilst always being a little competitive.
