The Bentham Family become Founder Patrons of Horizon Youth Zone

Grimsby’s Horizon Youth Zone is pleased to announce Paul Bentham and family have become Founder Patrons of this new Grimsby charity.

As Founder Patrons, the Bentham Family will join Orsted, Andrew Pettit, Jason Stockwood and Bishopthorpe Wind Farm in committing to make an annual charitable donation, ensuring the Youth Zone opens with a first class offer for thousands of local young people.

Entrepreneur, Paul Bentham founded CardSave UK in Grimsby in 1995 and was inspired to give back to the town after learning about the ambitious plans for an OnSide Youth Zone.

Located in heart of Grimsby, Horizon Youth Zone will open 7 days a week, offer young people over 20 activities every session. Young people aged 8-19, and up to 25 for those with additional needs, will have access to state-of-the-art facilities including an indoor climbing wall, dance and drama studio, fully equipped gym, skate park, training kitchen, music room with recording studio, arts and crafts area, enterprise and employability suite and much more. Alongside a wide range of activities, youth workers will be available to offer advice and support to those who need it.

Paul said “ I still have strong links to the Grimsby area having spent many happy years living and working there. Developing a number of businesses in the region highlighted the value of providing people with long-term opportunities, sometimes even hope, particularly when other sectors were often in decline.

Onside plays a vital role in helping young people in towns and cities where opportunities are sometimes harder to come by. I took the time to see what difference they’ve made to other communities like Croydon and was hugely impressed by the impact they’ve had there. Hopefully other local business owners will feel the same way and get behind this amazing project and support the volunteers who are making sure young people in Grimsby have somewhere safe and productive to go.”

Founder Patrons are a very special group of people and businesses with a vested interest in North East Lincolnshire who will come together to support the Youth Zone. Each member of Horizon’s Founder Patron family pledges a long-term financial commitment, helping the Youth Zone to build strong foundations within the town.

Jason Stockwood, Interim Chair of Horizon Youth Zone said “Founder Patrons will be forever associated with the charity and their commitment and endorsement will provide a positive legacy for future generations. On behalf of the young people of Grimsby, I’d like to say a huge thank you to Paul and his family for their generous gift.”

The Youth Zone is being developed in partnership with OnSide Youth Zones, North East Lincolnshire Council and local organisations and individuals.

Horizon is actively seeking to bring together like-minded individuals and organisations who share in its vision to help improve the lives of thousands of young people.
