Whilst Horizon Youth Zone was preparing to open their doors earlier this year, the YPDG (Young People’s Development Group) were also getting ready to transition into the next phase of Horizon’s youth voice group.
Members of the YPDG came up with The Beyond Collective, passing the torch to new members joining the youth zone.
They decided that the group should be split across juniors and seniors to ensure that as many youth voices as possible could be heard. The junior group became The Beyond Collective: Skippers, whilst the senior group became The Beyond Collective: Next Gen.
One of The Skippers first tasks were to brainstorm ideas on what they thought was needed in the youth zone and what would further help young people. Their answer? Vibe & Thrive!
Vibe & Thrive is a new club which takes place every Tuesday junior session between 6pm and 7pm. The club promotes wellbeing and is a place to form new friendships. There are a range of activities going on each week, from games to Lego, drawing to quizzes, but it is also a calm space for young people.
When asked why they wanted to become part of The Beyond Collective, one member said, “I wanted to make a positive change to the youth zone.” Whilst another said, “I joined so I could make Horizon a better place.”
“I like helping everyone in the youth zone and making it a better place for everyone,” one member said, “Vibe & Thrive gets people together and they can make new friends. It’s a calm space, if it’s too loud outside then you can come here and it can be your calm.”
Vibe & Thrive takes place every Tuesday in the Enterprise Room, 6pm – 7pm.
